My project will be a first-person explorable interior scene featuring a vehicle. I have chosen to embark on this project as an aspiring Environment Artist and hope to achieve my goal of fulfilling this role in the games industry.
My initial idea for my Final Major Project is to create a London Underground station set in the World War 1 (early 1900's) era. I will be working on this project from now until May / June 2017 so I am aiming to achieve a highly polished scene demonstrating good knowledge of games asset, scene and vehicle creation using PBR and Unreal Engine 4. Although I know I want to create an underground station with a large outdoor arching roof I'm currently torn between two different settings for the scene: 1. Creating the station in a good working condition as if it was being used in the given time period. 2. Creating the station as if it had been bombed or partly destroyed in World War 1 and left to decay. At the moment I'm more set on the idea of creating the scene after a bombing. This will mean that I could create a small/medium sized environment and focus more on details like cracks, broken architecture, growing foliage, general wear and other elements in the scene like a train and/or carriage. I decided on the train station idea because not only does it interest me, I feel that there is plenty of variety within the idea to show off a wide range of different skills. I plan to visit a bunch of train related museums and exhibitions over the summer to gather research and develop my ideas. So far I've collected some research images on the Pinterest board below which I intend to update throughout the project with further research and over things like tutorials and other reference material. The two images I've also included are my two favourite research images! The first is of Charing Cross Station and the second of High Kensington Station (Now High Street Kensington Station). I've pinpointed these two images because they fit the type of scene I want to create best; big arched roof, walls covered in posters and advertising, hanging lights, old station signs, I could go on forever!
